Welcome to Conteck's Den

Greetings fellow wanderer of the Web.  You have found Michael's home page.  Some people know me as Conteck, a name I almost always use when on-line.  There is a story behind this name, but creating the web edition of it is low on a long list of things to do.

Following a hard disc crash, the den has migrated to a new home on a new operating system and new editing tools.

This page is little more than an entry point with links to various things which interest us.

Your options from here are:
alto and baritone clefs
Music
A Polly IV steam loco
Steam Engines
Chess icon
Games
Celtic icon
Art
Sun icon
Solar Power
Web icon
Links
Map icon
Site Map

Those who are aware of previous incarnations of Conteck's Den should note that the old den was closed in November 2003 because it wasn't big enough for two.  You can find more about "Mrs. Conteck" by following the Music link.

But music is just one the things we have in common.  We like steam engines!  To read more about how we are putting this shared interest into practice follow the steam engines link.

Before Barbara distracted him, Michael played lots of games.  To read more follow the Games link.

The Art link covers a wider range of art than most people think of.

The Solar Power pages are about our attempts to reduce our environmental impact.

The page of Web Links and the Site Map are exactly what you expect.

The Small Print

As a professional programmer I feel moderately strongly about copyright and that sort of thing.  I disapprove of bootlegging programs.

I see what I do as an art form - it is just that few people appreciate the look and feel of a well tuned piece of code.

From that it follows that I must also respect the desires of other artists not to have their works stolen.
However, I'm not a graphic artist and so I have to use other people's icons and such.

To the best of my knowlege and belief all the artwork which I use on this site has been authorised for use either generally or specifically for non-commercial purposes by the copyright holders.
The game, sun and map icons on this page are © 1999-2005 www.barrysclipart.com.
Celtic designs have been used from a CD-ROM/book by Dover Publications, Inc.

It is not my intention to use anyone's artwork without permission - if you think there may be an infringement please e-mail me and I'll edit it out.

Likewise, I assert my own copyrights etc. over my own work.

This site does not yet meet the full W3C Web Content Accesibility Guidelines, but I'm working towards it.  I find the Watchfire WebXact tool most useful for this.

I look at this site at resolutions of 1152 by 864 or higher, but it should look ok at 1024 by 768.  The site is tested on Safari 3.0 and Firefox 3.0 on a Mac.  If you become aware of a problem with another browser please get in touch and I'll see what I can do.
